Images of Tasmania as collected by Colin Dennison : University of Tasmania Library Special & Rare Collections
This online archive, managed by the University of Tasmania Library, holds images collected by Hobart historian Colin Dennison and donated to the University of Tasmania in 2016.
The Library is progressively adding further material to the online archive from the Colin Dennison's extensive collection.
This collection contains more than 100,000 images of Tasmanian photographs, archival material such as maps, documents and ephemera, which are being progressively added to this online archive. It is one of Tasmania's largest and most significant heritage collections and as such constitutes an important heritage resource. The collection includes a very large digital collection and a smaller collection of original material. In developing this collection over many years a prime concern of Colin Dennison has been ensuring that the collection is readily accessible to the community at large, and to achieve this he donated his collection to the University of Tasmania. Most of the images were originally created prior to 1956 and have been sourced from private Tasmanian collections. Most of the images have been obtained by scanning photographs either donated to or purchased by Mr Dennison or copied by him with the permission of families, one or more of whose members took the photographs. Some of the images can be identified as copies of original images created by government departments which were discarded and destroyed.
Mr Dennison and the University of Tasmania signed an agreement in 2016 governing the conditions of use and access for the collection.
